We purchased the revision 3.0 of Charting Tools for Windows, Real-Time Graphic tools and Graphics Class Library for MFC. This was a long time ago. Probably year 2000 or so. We used VS 6.0 to integrate these libraries.
Now we are upgrading our software to use VS 2008 instead. When I link, I get references to mfc42.lib.
Does I need to recompile the packages or can I use the old libs?
The target environment is XP and Vista.

You need to recompile the GCL libraries. See the thread "GCL 3.0 and MFC 7.0" at the top of this forum. |

The "GCL 3.0 and MFC 7.0" thread says to look for the project files in the QCW32\mfclib\source folder and I would guess that you are looking in the QCW32\mfclib folder. |

I have to look in my archive; I don't have the source folder, just the mfclib folder.

The qcw32\mfclib\source folder has always been installed with the GCL for MFC, from the earliest version of the software. If you don't have it then someone from your company deleted it. Go back to the original installation CD and reinstall the software. |

Now I have examined the installation media avaliable:
* one CD with three directories: BDSetup, CSetup and VBSetup. The CD is labeled "May contain" ... "Graphics Class Libraries for MFC", but I can't find any traces of either the mfclib- or source-directories.
* one 5 1/4" diskette labeled: "Version: IPC-MC-006" and "Rev. 9.0"
Am I looking at the wrong media?

This is where the manuals that came with the software would help. You will want to locate those. There should be three: Charting Tools for Windows, RT Graphics Tools for Windows and GCL for MFC.
The setup.exe program in the csetup folder on the CD would install the C version of the Charting, RT and GCL tools for Windows. You will need the CD installation key (looks something like 3100065-3261339821) in order to carry out the installation.
In anticipation of your next question, how can you get a new CD key to replace your lost one? You need to supply us with all of your company information, and if possible, approximate date of your original order, so that we can look up the necessary information. Send the information to support@quinn-curtis.com, along with an explanation. |

I have a valid CD-key and have installed the CSetup directory installation.
But I can't find any directories named mfclib or sources.
The directory structure are as folows: ./exampl_c ./exampl_c/AutoAxes ./exampl_c/BoxWhisk ./exampl_c/CandlStk ./exampl_c/CandlStk/CandlStk ./exampl_c/CompData ./exampl_c/ContourD ./exampl_c/D1P4Gax ./exampl_c/GroupLn ./exampl_c/MoveData ./exampl_c/MultAxes ./exampl_c/MultiPlt ./exampl_c/NewData ./exampl_c/PanGraph ./exampl_c/ScatStep ./exampl_c/SerDemo ./exampl_c/ShowHide ./exampl_c/StockHLC ./exampl_c/SuprZoom ./exampl_c/UIObj ./exampl_c/Waterfal ./exampl_c/WCTDEMO3 ./exam_cpp ./exam_cpp/BCB ./exam_cpp/BCB/CTExample1 ./exam_cpp/BCB/RTExample1 ./exam_cpp/RTVCPP ./exam_cpp/RTVCPP/RES ./exam_cpp/VCPP ./exam_cpp/VCPP/RES ./rtexam_c ./rtexam_c/DynLine ./rtexam_c/ScrollG2 ./rtexam_c/Simple ./rtexam_c/WRTDEMO3

Then that CD key does not install the GCL for MFC. Either you have another CD key and/or CD that will install it, or your original order did not include it. We don't know how you ended up with a partial installation of the GCL for MFC on your system. |

That explains everything.
On the CD-cover there were one printed CD-key and one handwrited key. Since the installation with the printed CD-key seemed for me to work, I didn't try the other one.
Now I've unpacked both the mfclib and source directories.
Thank you for your help and patience!
